SLSS Award of Merit
Aim: To establish a higher level of knowledge, understanding and practical ability in aquatic rescue situations.
Pre-requisites: Trainee must attain Bronze Medallion Award.
Approximate course duration: 20 to 30 hours.
SLSS Award Of Merit Course Scope of Training:
- Clear understanding of water-safety, survival in water, rescue principles and emergency aftercare.
- Show proof of SLSS Resuscitation (CPR) or Senior Resuscitation certification or equivalent obtained within past two years.
- Perform Rescue Fitness without rescue-aid to a conscious casualty 75 meters from safety within 5 minutes.
- Perform Contact Tow without rescue-aid to a panic conscious casualty 25 meters away and 75 meters from safety.
- Perform Resuscitation Rescue with buoyant rescue-aid of an unconscious non-breathing casualty in deep water, 30 meters from safety within 1 minute, and perform CPR.
- Swim 600 meters continuously, comprising of 50 meters each of front-crawl, breast-stroke, survival back-stroke and side-stroke.
